Do We Need Social Media Marketing?

Social media seems to have encompassed our world and it seems that everything we do today is embraced by social media. From a consumer's point of view this is good news as whenever something purchased doesn't quite work out for you or if you have had a very bad experience from a service, it is now extremely easy to use social media as a way of complaining and telling your friends and followers.
This has proven to be a very quick way of getting heard and possibly getting compensated. But from a business point of view do we actually need this type of marketing and what the heck is social media?
Back in 2013 when Google started implementing semantic search, they were very determined as a search engine to define that the internet is becoming more about meaning and activity and less about keyword stuffing. In fact if anyone tells you that they can still rank your site and get you onto the front of Google through keywords and keywords alone, I would start running!
With this type of meaning and activity comes social media marketing. Think of all those social media channels which have millions and millions of members. Now think of your business interacting amongst these channels and creating a buzz or excitement? What happens next when this is carried out correctly, is a huge amount of activity and movement.
The movement amongst your followers and followers they are attached to can almost be compared to the "Pyramid Marketing Scheme" of the 80's which so many of us fell for. Please don't get me wrong, social media marketing is nothing like pyramid selling, I was merely using this as an example of what can happen with a "repeat" type of effect!
This activity and movement which you have just created will throw a lot of traffic back to your website, which in turn will hopefully create more conversions and help your business no end!
So as you can hopefully gather from this article, social media marketing is big business and needs to be embraced. And as a business you should not ignore this form of marketing and should think very carefully about creating a social media marketing plan and budget.
If we move on, a lot of people have asked me which marketing channels are best for their business? A very hard question as channels vary and depend on your niche. I can say that I have had the most success with Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest and Instagram.
But like most things online, this form of marketing will not happen overnight. It takes hard work and dedication but at the same time watch out as the results will speak for themselves.
