Over the last decade there has been a change in the mindset of people wanting to increase their income. Originally the options were few, you either found a new, better paying job or you started your own brick and mortar business. Thanks to the internet, a whole new world of possibilities has opened up for those who are willing to try something new. Among the vast opportunities out there, there is no question that affiliate marketing is proving to be the most popular. There are a number of reasons as to why this is the case, but the primary ones are that there is very little investment to get started, you do not need to be a technical expert and it is really not that complicated. Therefore, it is the perfect business opportunity for someone who doesn't have any background or experience.

So what is affiliate marketing anyway? Simply put, affiliate marketing is where you, as an affiliate, promote a vendor's products or services to the public. When someone clicks on your link and is directed to the vendor's website and buys from them, you get a commission on the sale. From an affiliate marketers perspective there are many advantages, such as, no storing merchandise or stock, no dealing with customers and invoices and no responsibility in regard to the sale other than directing the prospective customer in the right direction.


If this sounds like something you would like to explore, it is fairly easy to get started. There are several different affiliate programs you can choose from. There are a few other options as well, you can sign up with several affiliate programs that manage vendors looking for affiliates to promote their products or you can find a private program and work with a vendor one on one. You can do a Google search for affiliate programs and have a look through the results. Several affiliate companies pay once a month using PayPal or direct deposit. This will depend on the size of the company and its location.
As soon as you have registered as an affiliate, you will need to consider what you want to promote and start doing some research. Find out the best keywords around the products you have chosen. A good device to use for this process is the free Google keywords tool. This will give you an idea as to how many times your keyword is searched and how competitive the niche is. This will give you an indication as to whether it will be worthwhile or too hard to go after that particular niche. Once you have your product names and keywords, you will need to register a domain, purchase hosting and setup your website to promote your niche. Many of the larger vendors will provide you with most of what you need to get started, such as, banners, images and your affiliate link.
Once your website is set up, you will want to start adding content. The content you write should be unique and original when promoting your product as Google will give more credibility to valuable content as opposed to regurgitated articles.
The next step is getting some backlinks to get yourself on the front page of Google. This is the best place to be to maximize traffic for your keywords. We won't get into building backlinks in this article as that is a whole other subject, but there are many free tutorials and videos on the internet to walk you through the process.

Affiliate marketing is an excellent online business. You need to remember that it is a business and needs to be treated as one. You will definitely need to put in a bit of work to get started. Don't give up if things don't happen right away. You need to be consistent and persistent. Take action every day and you will start seeing results.

The following are the top effective tips from these AdWords masters:


1. Your Search Query Report should be familiar to you.
A search query report is a database of all those search words which triggers the appearance of your ads. By finding keywords that are irrelevant to your ads and thereby setting those search words as negative keywords, it is always possible to save money on clicks that do not convert. In addition, by finding new keywords that are relevant to your ads, it is possible to increase profits and clicks on them by writing particular ad text to support and making them new keywords. All these will only add to your benefit from the search query report.


2. Target on Relevance.
It is said that extreme relevance is the way to a successful AdWords campaign. Creating relevant campaigns, providing a precise result to the search query of an user, relevance between ad text, keywords and content of landing page are the steps to a good AdWords campaign. The metric showing relevancy is known as Quality Score, which increases by optimizing keywords, increasing CTR and landing pages. A higher value of the Quality Score means more relevancy with the search queries of the user.
3. Allocate Sufficient Data To Analyze.
Bidding high initially is highly recommended to get the first or second position in a search result because it will give you more data to analyze which you can:

6 Landing Page Musts for Higher Conversion Rates

It’s no secret that landing pages are essential to the success of your ecommerce site. Whether you’re creating these pages for your pay-per-click campaigns or for email blasts, a few things always remain the same. It doesn’t matter if you’re brand new to the ecommerce landing page design or just looking for a quick refresher. These six landing page musts will never change. 

Logo

When pulling together a landing page for your latest offer, you have a lot of components to think about. One big component you simply cannot forget is your company logo. This is for the sake of your buyers’ comfort, even more than the chance to increase brand awareness. Sure, your buyers probably landed on that page by clicking something else that has your logo on it, but that doesn’t mean you can slack. Make buyers feel safe; include that logo.

Matching Products

Whatever products you use in your paid advertising campaigns, use those again on the landing page. There should be no discrepancy between products, prices, or discounts. No one should ever wonder if they’ve landed in the right spot after clicking through to your landing page.

Bold (and Similar) Images

While some PPC campaigns may not allow for images, other paid advertising channels do. You may be tempted to use fun and quirky designs to catch a buyer’s attention. If so, that’s fine. Just be sure your imagery matches across the board. If a buyer clicks through an ad that features images of models in T-shirts, shorts, and flip-flops, only to learn the item for sale is a bracelet that could barely be seen in the marketing image, they might not trust your company when they run across later marketing campaigns. 

Call-to-Action

What do you want buyers to do once they land on your website? That’s exactly what your call-to-action should say. There are several different design elements to consider when creating a CTA, but the most important thing is simply that you have one. Without it, what’s the point of your landing page?

Short Form

If you’re giving something away—even if it’s just a small discount on some of your most popular items—you should get something in return. The best way to get what’s coming to you is a short form on the landing page. By requiring customers to part with their email address, you gain a way to keep in contact. This will allow you to share news about upcoming sales and keep an eye on where they are in the buying cycle at all times. If your offer is good enough, they’ll be happy to hand over their info.

Security Information

Before anyone buys anything from your site, they’re probably going to look for your security seals. That’s not all that makes a buyer feel safe, though. Other security information might include some of your company’s partnerships, reviews or testimonies from past customers, and maybe even some mentions in the news. Anything you do to show buyers they’re making the right choice can only increase the chances that they’ll open their wallets.
We really do talk a lot about landing pages, but that’s because they work. Not only do you avoid confusing your buyers, but you also add yet another page to your website. More pages mean more quality content for Google to enjoy. In the end, it’s a big win for everyone involved.

How to Start a Business Online

There is a proven sequence of steps you can follow to guarantee your success when you're starting a small business online. I've seen thousands of people start and grow successful businesses by doing the following:

  1. Find a need and fill it.
  2. Write copy that sells.
  3. Design and build an easy-to-use website.
  4. Use search engines to drive traffic to your site.
  5. Establish an expert reputation for yourself.
  6. Follow up with your customers and subscribers with e-mail.
  7. Increase your income through back-end sales and upselling.
Anyone, from newbie to seasoned online entrepreneur, can benefit from this process in learning how to start a business online.

Step 1: Find a need and fill it

Most people who are just starting out make the mistake of looking for a product first, and a market second.
To boost your chances of success, start with a market. The trick is to find a group of people who are searching for a solution to a problem, but not finding many results. The internet makes this kind of market research easy:
  • Visit online forums to see what questions people ask and what problems they're trying to solve.
  • Do keyword research to find keywords that a lot of people are searching, but for which not many sites are competing.
  • Check out your potential competitors by visiting their sites and taking note of what they're doing to fill the demand. Then you can use what you've learned and create a product for a market that already exists--and do it better than the competition.


Step 2: Write copy that sells

There's a proven sales copy formula that takes visitors through the selling process from the moment they arrive to the moment they make a purchase:
  1. Arouse interest with a compelling headline.
  2. Describe the problem your product solves.
  3. Establish your credibility as a solver of this problem.
  4. Add testimonials from people who have used your product.
  5. Talk about the product and how it benefits the user.
  6. Make an offer.
  7. Make a strong guarantee.
  8. Create urgency.
  9. Ask for the sale.
Throughout your copy, you need to focus on how your product or service is uniquely able solve people's problems or make their lives better. Think like a customer and ask "What's in it for me?"


Step 3: Design and build your website

Once you've got your market and product, and you've nailed down your selling process, now you're ready for your small-business web design. Remember to keep it simple. You have fewer than five seconds to grab someone's attention--otherwise they're gone, never to be seen again. Some important tips to keep in mind:
  • Choose one or two plain fonts on a white background.
  • Make your navigation clear and simple, and the same on every page.
  • Only use graphics, audio or video if they enhance your message.
  • Include an opt-in offer so you can collect e-mail addresses.
  • Make it easy to buy--no more than two clicks between potential customer and checkout.
  • Your website is your online storefront, so make it customer-friendly.


Step 4: Use search engines to drive targeted buyers to your site

Pay-per-click advertising is the easiest way to get traffic to a brand-new site. It has two advantages over waiting for the traffic to come to you organically. First, PPC ads show up on the search pages immediately, and second, PPC ads allow you to test different keywords, as well as headlines, prices and selling approaches. Not only do you get immediate traffic, but you can also use PPC ads to discover your best, highest-converting keywords. Then you can distribute the keywords throughout your site in your copy and code, which will help your rankings in the organic search results.

Step 5: Establish an expert reputation for yourself

People use the internet to find information. Provide that information for free to other sites, and you'll see more traffic and better search engine rankings. The secret is to always include a link to your site with each tidbit of information. 
  • Give away free, expert content. Create articles, videos or any other content that people will find useful. Distribute that content through online article directories or social media sites.
  • Include "send to a friend" links on valuable content on your website.
  • Become an active expert in industry forums and social networking sites where your target market hangs out.
You'll reach new readers. But even better, every site that posts your content will link back to yours. Search engines love links from relevant sites and will reward you in the rankings.


Step 6: Use the power of e-mail marketing to turn visitors into buyers.

When you build an opt-in list, you're creating one of the most valuable assets of your online business. Your customers and subscribers have given you permission to send them e-mail. That means:
  • You're giving them something they've asked for.
  • You're developing lifetime relationships with them.
  • The response is 100 percent measurable.
  • E-mail marketing is cheaper and more effective than print, TV or radio because it's highly targeted.
Anyone who visits your site and opts in to your list is a very hot lead. And there's no better tool than e-mail for following up with those leads.


Step 7: Increase your income through back-end sales and upselling 

One of the most important internet marketing strategies is to develop every customer's lifetime value. At least 36 percent of people who have purchased from you once will buy from you again if you follow up with them. Closing that first sale is by far the most difficult part--not to mention the most expensive. So use back-end selling and upselling to get them to buy again:
  • Offer products that complement their original purchase.
  • Send out electronic loyalty coupons they can redeem on their next visit.
  • Offer related products on your "Thank You" page after they purchase.
Reward your customers for their loyalty and they'll become even more loyal.
The internet changes so fast that one year online equals about five years in the real world. But the principles of how to start and grow a successful online business haven't changed at all. If you're just starting a small business online, stick to this sequence. If you've been online awhile, do a quick review and see if there's a step you're neglecting, or never got around to doing in the first place. You can't go wrong with the basics.
