I have been creating websites for over 15 years! I have created a variety of different types of websites including blogs, content management sites, social networks, social bookmarking sites, static websites and others. In my experience, I have found message forums to be the better types of sites to create out of all the rest. There are many reasons for this as well.
Activity
A forum consists of members who post new topics and replies and carry on discussions. You can get your forum pretty active with daily membership activities, new discussions and great topics. Once you are able to get your forum active and look forward to logging in every day with new topics and discussions, it will become a big treat for you. A forum is one of the better types of websites to actually determine how many people are using the website.
Challenge
Running a forum isn't easy! Today, anyone can make a website in the matter of a few clicks. They use an easy site creator on a free hosting service and then they see themselves as an instant webmaster. Back in the old days, you had to create code and fix errors to get things to work. It has become very easy to create a website these days. However, with forums, there is still a challenge of getting active member, getting member to post and gaining that "big board" status that most forum owners want to see. There is a lot of trial and error methods when trying to make your forum work. I personally love the challenge it brings me because it makes me think and it makes me work for it feeling like I have truly accomplished something in the end.
Friendship
Once you get those active members on your forum, you can easily develop a friendship with them. I look to make every member of my forum a friend. Once you do become great friends, they will want to associate with you more and therefore will visit your forum again in the future so they can be around you. Developing friendships is one of the better methods of gaining active member on your forum.
Skills
A forum is a challenge as I said above! The challenge allows your brain to be active and it builds up your skills. After running a forum in a serious manner, you will gain all sorts of skills. You will gain management skills from having to manage members, staff and enforce rules on your forum. You will gain marketing skills from having to promote your forum to get more members. You will gain knowledge of the niche your forum is about after ensuring that unique content is always available on it. There is a whole lot of skills you will get better at by running a message forum.
This is WHY I choose to run a FORUM!
